NISYRIO

NISYRIO is a non-profit association based in Nisyros, Greece working on environment & climate, community development, arts & culture.

NISYRIO is a non-profit organisation based on the island of Nisyros, Greece. It aims to create a new living environment on the island by developing and supporting innovative projects, raising public awareness, and running socio-cultural activities. A central focus is the reuse and re-purposing of plastic waste, which the island produces in large quantities because it lacks natural water sources and residents and guests rely on bottled water. Rather than burning plastic waste, the organisation seeks creative and sustainable practices that turn it into a resource for island life, engaging experts and bringing the island community together around cleaner living and sustainable cultural practices. Its supporter scheme offers recognition tiers, from staying close to its activities up to commissioned artworks. The organisation is run by a group of co-founders including architects, a designer, an artist, a musicologist and a legal professional.
