SOS SCAD-DORPEN India is a Belgian non-profit association (vzw) that supports rural communities in Tamil Nadu, India, in partnership with the local NGO SCAD. It was founded in 1998 as SOS Zoutmijnkinderen-India, after a visit to Tamil Nadu revealed the conditions of children working in salt mines. The organisation co-finances village development projects covering schooling, women's groups and job creation, health care and rehabilitation for people with disabilities, leprosy patients and elderly people, clean water, and sustainable farming. It funds its work through donations, subsidies from the province of West Flanders and cities and municipalities, and foundation grants, and it reports regularly on projects to its supporters.
