About

Stoomtrein Maldegem-Eeklo is a non-profit association based in Maldegem, Belgium working on heritage, arts & culture, community development.

Stoomtrein Maldegem-Eeklo is a volunteer-run museum railway in Belgium's Meetjesland region, operated by the vzw Stoomcentrum Maldegem. It runs historic steam and diesel trains on a roughly 10 km return route between Maldegem and Eeklo, on part of the former railway line 58. The association maintains and restores a collection of historic locomotives and carriages, and organises rides, themed festivals, dining trains, group trips and special events, including Sinterklaas trains. Visitors can also explore the Maldegem station site, the workshops and the museum shed. The vzw has been recognised as an open heritage site, and it is funded by ride and visitor income, subsidies and donations. Steam trains run on Sundays and public holidays from May to September, and diesel trains also run on Wednesdays in July and August. The association is responsible for restoring the Balgerhoeke lift bridge, a listed heritage structure over the Schipdonk Canal, and launched a fundraising campaign for this work.
