Fall River Electric Cooperative is a member-owned electric utility cooperative serving portions of Idaho, Wyoming, and Utah across seven counties with over 15,000 electric owner-members and more than 20,000 electric meters. The cooperative operates on a not-for-profit basis, with all revenue exceeding operating costs returned to members as Patronage Capital. The cooperative owns and operates five hydroelectric facilities on the Henrys Fork and Teton rivers (Island Park Hydro, Buffalo River Hydro, Felt Hydro, and Chester Hydro), generating approximately 14-15% of member power needs. An additional 85% of power is sourced from the Bonneville Power Administration, which primarily sells hydroelectric power from federal dams in the Northwest. The cooperative supports member-owned renewable energy systems including solar, wind, and small hydropower through net metering programs. As of 2025, Fall River's residential rate of 10.4 cents per kilowatt-hour is noted as the lowest in the nation.
