About
Founded in 2011, Weserkraftwerk Bremen is a renewable energy company headquartered in Bremen, Germany specializing in Hydro.
The Weserkraftwerk Bremen is a hydroelectric power plant located alongside the existing Weserwehr in Bremen-Hastedt at river kilometer 362.153 on the Weser River. Operational since March 2012, it is Germany's largest tide-dependent run-of-river hydropower facility with 10 MW capacity. The plant operates underground to minimize environmental impact and supplies approximately 33-40 million kWh of electricity annually to roughly 11,360 households. The facility employs two horizontal ENERCON S-tube turbines designed for low head and fluctuating tidal conditions. It incorporates comprehensive fish protection measures including multiple fish passage systems, bypass mechanisms, and low-speed turbines (max 90 RPM) with minimal shear forces. The fine mesh screen maintains 25mm bar spacing to prevent fish entrainment while maintaining low approach velocities of 0.7 m/s.
