About
Founded in 2020, InterPED is a government headquartered in Belgium specializing in Solar, Wind, Biomass.
InterPED is an EU-funded research initiative (grant agreement No 101138047) running from September 2020 to September 2024, dedicated to accelerating the deployment of Positive Energy Districts (PEDs) across Europe. The project adopts a holistic, cross-disciplinary approach combining state-of-the-art technologies with participatory design and rigorous stakeholder engagement. InterPED delivers a scalable, cloud-based platform for planning, supervision, and control of integrated PEDs, enabling sector coupling, cross-vector integration, and demand flexibility. The project couples renewable energy sources, storage solutions, and waste/excess heat with advanced ICT expertise to ensure improved PED operations and grid robustness. Four large-scale pilots demonstrate integrated solutions: Ecovillage Findhorn (Scotland), Alba Iulia College District (Romania), Lugaritz-Matía Community (Spain), and Arena Innovation Community (Switzerland). The project emphasizes consumer engagement through participatory co-design processes, fostering community involvement in energy transition and grid balancing. Key focus areas include electric vehicle charging optimization, district heating integration, local energy marketplaces, and citizen engagement through visualization and monitoring tools. InterPED contributes to the EU's climate neutrality goals by promoting energy-efficient communities, reducing dependency on non-renewable sources, and enabling economic benefits through reduced energy costs and enhanced grid stability.
