About
Founded in 1929, MYHS is a government headquartered in Chania, Greece specializing in Hydro.
The Small Hydroelectric Power Plant of Agia is a pioneering early 20th-century hydroelectric facility inaugurated on July 22, 1929, by Greek Prime Minister Eleftherios Venizelos. Originally owned by the Municipal Lighting Company of Chania and later acquired by the Public Power Corporation in 1959, it remained operational until 2008. The plant was designed by Italian engineer Prinzivalli and Swiss engineer Sen, featuring state-of-the-art German AEG electromechanical equipment. It operated using a 4-meter elevation difference between an artificial lake and the power station, with water flowing through a 490-meter concrete penstock and driving three pairs of Francis-type turbines. Today, the decommissioned facility has been repurposed as an Exhibition Hall dedicated to renewable energy sources, offering educational programs on renewable energy generation, industrial heritage, biodiversity, and environmental conservation.
