The Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (Plocan) is a public consortium established in 2007 between Spain's Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness and the Canary Islands Government. It constructs, equips, and operates marine research infrastructures including the VIMAS facility (autonomous underwater and surface vehicles), the Offshore Ocean Platform (for deep-sea access), and the EMSO ocean observation node. Plocan provides testing capabilities for experimental marine technologies, components, and devices at various scales in sustainable operating conditions. The facility includes a 400 m² onshore base with workshops, laboratories, a seawater tank, and control room. It supports marine science research, educational programs including underwater robotics training, and AI-based coastal management solutions.
