About
Founded in 2011, Steeper Energy is a renewable energy company headquartered in Calgary, Canada specializing in Biomass.
Steeper Energy develops Hydrofaction, a proprietary hydrothermal liquefaction technology that converts wet biomass waste, particularly lignocellulosic residues, into a high-energy renewable biocrude. The biocrude can be used directly as a heavy fuel oil replacement or upgraded through conventional refining pathways into renewable diesel, gasoline and sustainable aviation fuel. The company operates pilot and demonstration facilities in Aalborg, Denmark and an Advanced Biofuels Center in Calgary, Canada, and has developed a standard modular plant design for commercial deployment. Steeper was founded in 2011 by Perry Toms and Dr. Steen Iversen, with TOM Capital as majority shareholder.
