About

De Bemiddelingskamer is a community organisation based in Alkmaar, Netherlands working on community development, peace & conflict.

De Bemiddelingskamer is a Dutch foundation without profit motive that specialises in neighbour mediation. Trained volunteer mediators help neighbours who are in conflict over issues such as noise, pets, gardens, parking and gossip to re-enter dialogue and find a solution they both support. The service is free of charge for residents. It operates in seven municipalities in the Alkmaar region of North Holland: Alkmaar, Bergen, Uitgeest, Castricum, Heiloo, Opmeer and Medemblik. The organisation is funded by its partners, which include these municipalities and several housing corporations. It recruits and trains volunteer mediators, has a nationally recognised training framework, and is a recognised training company for MBO and HBO students. It also offers mediation to municipalities and other parties interested in introducing neighbour mediation locally.
