Macheo is a Dutch-registered foundation, Stichting Macheo Nederland, that funds and supports Macheo Childrens Organization in Kenya. The Kenyan organisation works with vulnerable children and their families in the slums and rural areas around Thika. Its approach is individual: social workers assess each child's situation with a self-developed system and a child well-being index, then select the most promising support measures and measure the effect afterwards. Services include school meals, a children's home, a baby home, support for teenage mothers, psychological and financial help, and individual educational support. Work is carried out by Kenyan staff, and the Dutch board serves on a voluntary basis. The organisation is funded through individual donations, sponsorships and legacies, and holds the CBF quality mark for Dutch charities. It was established in 2005.
