Nationaal Monument Kamp Vught
Stichting Nationaal Monument Kamp Vught
Vught, Netherlands
About
Founded in 1990, Nationaal Monument Kamp Vught is a foundation based in Vught, Netherlands working on heritage, human rights, education.
Nationaal Monument Kamp Vught is a remembrance centre on part of the former Kamp Vught (Konzentrationslager Herzogenbusch), the only SS concentration camp outside Nazi Germany and the annexed territories. It is located in Vught, the Netherlands. The centre keeps the memory of the camp alive and of the people imprisoned, killed or connected to the site, aiming to contribute to moral awareness in society. Its permanent exhibition, 'Kamp Vught: zeven seizoenen en 32.000 verhalen', tells the history through personal stories and objects, and the site includes the restored Barak 1B, the camp grounds, a children's memorial and an authentic crematorium. It runs audio and video tours, educational programmes for schools and students, temporary exhibitions and public events such as commemorations and lectures. The centre maintains a collection of more than 5,000 objects, documents and photographs and supports historical research and access to archives. Its work relies on about 160 volunteers, who staff the desk, museum café, guided tours and grounds maintenance. Support comes through the Stichting Beschermers, which generates additional funds through annual contributions from individuals and companies, and through Friends (Vrienden) memberships. The foundation is recognised as a public-benefit organisation (ANBI), so gifts are tax-deductible in the Netherlands.
