RIGHTABOUTNOW INC. (also known as RAN INC.) is an interdisciplinary hip-hop and urban production house and performing arts centre based on IJburg in Amsterdam. It produces theatre productions, events, exhibitions and social projects, and offers a platform for emerging makers and performers for whom the city is their arena and hip-hop is an essential source. The organisation coaches mid-career urban makers, curates context programming and reflection programmes on culture and identity, and organises the RIGHTABOUTNOW Festival, held every two years. It also manages the RAN Archives for Black performing arts, a non-institutional hip-hop archive for and by Black performance makers, which is being catalogued, digitised and made public in partnership with institutions such as the Allard Pierson Museum and the OBA. Its educational work includes teaching materials, workshops and school visits for primary, secondary and higher vocational and university students across the Netherlands. The organisation was founded by Marjorie Boston and Maarten van Hinte and grew out of the theatre company Made in da Shade. It is structurally funded by Amsterdam Fonds voor de Kunst and Fonds Podiumkunsten, holds ANBI status, and relies on donations and public support.
