About

Stichting Kleine Marters is a non-governmental organisation based in Duiven, Netherlands working on nature & wildlife conservation, science & research.

Stichting Kleine Marters, also known in English as the Small Mustelid Foundation (SMF), is a Dutch non-profit foundation working on the conservation and study of small carnivores of the Mustela genus, including weasel, stoat and polecat. It conducts research into the ecology and behaviour of these species, often in national collaboration, supports conservation measures, and brings together scientists, ecologists, naturalists and volunteers to share knowledge and methods. It also serves in an advisory and support role for ecologists, consultants and policy makers, given stricter protection of small mustelids in several Dutch provinces since 2017. The foundation is funded through donations and financial contributions from workshops, consultancy and presentations, and it works in the Netherlands and abroad.
