About

Stop de Noordtak is a community organisation based in Netherlands working on environment & climate, nature & wildlife conservation, community development.

Stop de Noordtak is a coalition of residents and local civil society organisations in Twente and the Achterhoek, in the eastern Netherlands, opposing the proposed Noordtak, a northern branch of the Betuweroute freight rail line. The campaign argues that the line is not needed given available capacity on the existing Betuweroute and German connection, and that it would cause lasting damage to landscape, nature and local communities. Its activities include advocacy towards policymakers and the State Secretary, petitions, the distribution of posters and flyers, and sales of protest banners. It is supported by a number of local nature, landscape and community groups. The campaign's website also publishes research on freight volumes, port container throughput and historic rail forecasts.
