Voedseltuin IJplein
Vereniging Voedseltuin IJplein
Amsterdam, Netherlands
About
Founded in 2014, Voedseltuin IJplein is a non-profit association based in Amsterdam, Netherlands working on poverty & hunger, community development, environment & climate.
Voedseltuin IJplein is a community vegetable garden in Amsterdam Noord, on the IJ waterfront, run entirely by volunteers since 2015. The association grows organic vegetables, herbs and fruit, and most of the harvest is donated to the Voedselbank Amsterdam food bank and to the neighbourhood restaurant Resto van Harte. Volunteers receive part of the harvest. The garden is open to the public and offers guided tours, workshops, a gardener training course and events, and it aims to be a meeting place for residents from different backgrounds. The association is governed by a board and is funded through donations, membership and grants from local funds.
