Forces Motrices Hongrin-Léman SA is a hydroelectric utility founded in 1963 that operates a pumped-storage accumulation facility in the Vaud region of Switzerland. The system comprises the Hongrin dam (retaining 52 million m³ of water) and two underground pumped-storage power plants at Veytaux. Water is pumped or turbined between Lac de l'Hongrin and Lac Léman, which are 880 meters apart in elevation. The first facility was partially commissioned in February 1970 and inaugurated on April 21, 1972. In 2007, shareholders approved doubling capacity by constructing a second Veytaux power plant. The newer facility underwent five years of hydraulic modeling and permitting before construction began on March 7, 2011. Excavation completed January 31, 2014, with the two new generation units commissioned for trial operation on January 1, 2017.
