About
Founded in 2018, Scalibur is a renewable energy company headquartered in European Union specializing in Biomass, Biogas.
Scalibur is a Horizon 2020 project (November 2018–October 2022) funded with €10 million by the European Union. It brings together 21 partners from 8 countries including waste management companies, technology developers, and research organizations. The project addresses the environmental challenge of over 100 million tonnes of annual EU biowaste, of which 75% currently goes to landfill or incineration. Scalibur demonstrates innovative value chains to transform three urban biowaste streams (food waste and sewage sludge) into high-value industrial products including bioplastics, biopesticides, proteins, lipids, and chitin. The project works with four European pilot cities to identify best practices for selective collection, transport, sorting, and pre-treatment, engaging stakeholders across the waste management value chain.
