Navitas Energie is a citizen energy cooperative based in Belgium that enables burgers to invest in and co-own renewable energy projects. Founded on the principle that energy belongs in the hands of local communities, Navitas develops and manages solar installations on public buildings and participates in offshore wind investments. Through cooperative ownership, members achieve democratic control over energy decisions, with each member holding one vote regardless of share ownership. The cooperative prioritizes social goals alongside environmental objectives, dedicating a portion of profits to community energy initiatives and assistance for energy-poor households. Navitas operates in Flanders and Wallonia, working with municipalities, schools, and public organizations to transition away from fossil fuels toward locally-sourced renewable energy.
