R2D2 (Reliability, Resilience and Defense) is a collaborative research and innovation project co-funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe programme. The project aims to enhance the security and resilience of the European electrical grid against growing threats including extreme weather events, cyber threats, and physical vulnerabilities. The consortium conducts large-scale demonstrations across four pilot sites in Greece, Serbia, Portugal, and Slovenia, testing solutions in diverse climatic, geographic, and socioeconomic conditions. Key deliverables include cyber risk assessment tools, multi-risk assessment frameworks, asset maintenance toolkits, and integrated resilience suites for transmission and distribution system operators.
