Recirculate is an EU-funded project dedicated to increasing sustainability in the EV battery industry through a cascading approach that maximizes battery lifespan via refurbishment and reuse of whole battery packs, modules, and cells. The initiative addresses technical, regulatory, and data barriers slowing battery reuse in Europe by developing six key pillars: fast and accurate state-of-health characterization, safe storage and transportation solutions, repair and remanufacturing capabilities, rapid sorting technologies, AI-driven disassembly systems, and a blockchain-based Digital Battery Passport marketplace. The consortium comprises 11 partners from 8 countries including technology startups, academia, and industry leaders focused on creating a truly circular battery economy that extends battery lifespans through second and third-life applications before final recycling.
