About

Founded in 2020, So-free is a private headquartered in EU specializing in Hydrogen.

So-free is an EU-funded research initiative under Horizon 2020, coordinated by ENEA, that develops a fully future-ready solid oxide fuel cell-based system for combined heat and power generation. The project creates a versatile, fuel-flexible platform addressing the 5 kW power class, capable of operating with natural gas, biogas, hydrogen, and fuel mixtures. Key objectives include pre-certification of multifuel SOFC-CHP systems according to EU and international directives, development of two 5 kW SOFC systems with standardized stack-system module interfaces, demonstration of high electrical efficiency and heat quality under variable fuel conditions, and standardization of the stack module system interface through the International Electrotechnical Commission. The project operates across residential, commercial, municipal, and agricultural sectors with demonstrations reaching TRL 6-7 maturity levels.
